TortoiseCare - Saving the Egyptian Tortoise

The Egyptian Tortoise Testudo kleinmanni is one of the world’s smallest and most endangered tortoises. It is a species restricted in distribution to the Mediterranean coastal deserts of Egypt, Eastern Libya and western Negev in Israel. It is declining heading to extinction in the wild due to collection for the pet trade and the destruction of its natural habitats.

TortoiseCare is a program to conserve the Egyptian Tortoise throughout its range. The project was initiated by Sherif and Mindy Baha El Din after they were entrusted with the care of 200 Egyptian Tortoises confiscated in government raids on illegal traders.
